Early Childhood Success

Inclusive Preschool Services provide early intervention services for children, ages birth-5 who attend regular childcare and preschool settings. Assistance with childcare selection is offered, as well as coordination between families, other community resources, and and service providers. Training, consultation, and support are also provided for childcare providers and families.

Inclusion Resource Project provides consultation to childcare, after-school care, summer and recreation programs in the community who have enrolled or are interested in enrolling children with disabilities or other special needs. Teacher and staff training, program materials, referrals for services, and other resources are available.

For more information about Community Partnerships' Early Intervention Services, please call the Early Intervention Coordinator at 919-781-3616, ext. 209, or the Early Intervention Services Manager at 919-781-3616, ext. 235.

The Healthy Out of School Time (HOST) Project is a three-year grant funded by the John Rex Endowment that will:

  • Increase the availability and quality of after school and summertime recreational opportunities for school-age youth with cognitive, behavioral, emotional and physical disabilities.

  • Encourage and increase participation of children with disabilities in traditional day cares, after-school programs and summer camps so that they can learn and play alongside their typically-developing peers.

Services include: training and consultation for program staff working in after school, recreation and summer programs; consultations to families to help access these programs in the community; and limited support for youth enrolled in community programs.  For more information, please contact the HOST program at (919) 781-3616, ext. 302.

Durham Inclusion Support Services are similar to services provided by the HOST Project with on-site consultation, training, and technical assistance available for childcare, after-school care, summer and recreation programs in Durham County.  Other services include family workshops designed to highlight the importance of inclusion as well as consultation to help families locate community programs and resources.  The goals of the program are to:

  • Increase the availability and quality of community programming opportunities for children and youth with disabilities ages 3-18.

  • Increase the participation of children and youth with disabilities in community programming with their typically-developing peers.

For more information, contact the Durham Inclusion Support Services program at (919)  402-9400, ext. 411.
